Who am I

Gary Kirsten is a former South African cricketer, and the World Cup winning coach of the Indian cricket team.

On the international cricketing scene, his peers knew Gary Kirsten as a man on whom the whole team could depend on in times of crisis.

As a batsman, his ability to withstand enormous pressure from the fastest bowlers and the most crafted spinners was legendary.

Gary’s unique ability to score a century against every test playing nation bears testimony to his endurance and understanding of the dynamics of every bowling attack.

Gary’s greatest batting achievement is the record-equaling score of 275 against England, an innings that lasted over 14 hours and 30 minutes. This epitomized his complete self-discipline. 

In playing 101 Tests and 185 ODI’s, he gained an insight into a world understood by very few people. By his own admission, his ability and technique needed to be complemented with a temperament that demanded absolute dedication to further self-improvement and reflection. 

Gary’s ability and dedication to the game eventually led to his finest hour – the coach of Team India that won the 2011 Cricket World Cup. 

As a coach and mentor to some of the greatest players in the history of cricket, Gary needed to understand the dynamics that would see them perform consistently over a period of time.

Gary through his persistence and experience created a winning culture and a sense of self-belief in the Indian team.  His skill takes credit for getting the best out of his players whilst maintaining their respect – both on and off of the field.
