Who am I
“The Dharavi Project – where Music is a healer and Hip-hop
is a movement”.
AR Rahman and Shekhar Kapur launched ‘The Dharavi Dream Project’ initiative by Qyuki and Universal Music India providing a platform to the under resourced hiphop talent where Music is a healer and hip-hop is a movement. An AfterSchoolofHiphop running in the bylanes of Dharavi to nurture, mentor and empower emerging hiphop talent.
The main focus of the project is to discover fresh talent from Dharavi, nurture it through the programme and showcase it on a domestic and international scale via digital and traditional media.
Kapur described the initiative as a "dream
project" that will use music and dance to give hope to people.
"The Dharavi Project is a dream project and this is
something which we want to take across India and across the globe. The idea of
music and dance is giving hope to people. You can give new life to people.
These kids will be going places," he explained.
An after school and studio facility has been set up in the
heart of Dharavi where different groups from age 5 to 21 learn all aspects of
Hip Hop.
The Dharavi Dream Project now has a variety of young artists
in Rap, B-boying, and Beatboxing ready to perform for audiences across India.
