Who am I

Tania Sachdev is an Indian chess player and has the titles of Woman Grandmaster and International Master. She became the eighth Indian woman Grandmaster and won her first international title when she was just eight years old. She received Arjuna Award for her talents from the Government of India in 2009.

Tania was born on 20th August 1986 in Delhi. Her father was into the furniture business and her mother is a former badminton player. Her elder brother who is a golf player. Tania completed her schooling from Delhi and graduation from Shri Venkateshwara College. She started playing chess when she was seven years old, she was sponsored by Hughes Software Systems and got her coaching from the Argentine coach, GM Maxim Sorokin and IM Varugheese Koshy.

Tania is also very interested in reading, dance and music. She has learned classical dance as well. She has won Asia under 14 title in the tournament held at Tehran. She also won the Commonwealth Chess title at Dundee in 1993. In the year 1994, she bagged five British titles. Tania was also a runner-up in the 38th National Women’s Premier Chess Championship at Chennai. She won the bronze medal on Board 3 in the Istanbul Chess Olympiad 2012 in Turkey. She became the Asian Chess Champion in 2008.
